Tasting Notes
There has been some controversy brewing in Newton over the removal of Italian themed pavement markings on Adams street in Nonantum. These markings not only showcase Italian-American pride, but is used as the path of the Saint Mary of Carmen Festival parade route, which is happening this week. Since 1935, Saint Mary of Carmen Society has organized an annual Italian-American festival in Newton to celebrate Italian traditions and heritage. Their 90th Annual Festival takes place at Pellegrini Park (11 Hawthorn St, Newton, MA) starting July 16th through July 20th. Italian wines represent a substantial part of our overall wine inventory at The Cork and Board. Italian wines are unique as the country boasts over 500 indigenous grape varietals with a wine culture that spans over 4,000 years. Combine that with Italy's distinctive and unique terroir, including volcanic soils, mediterranean climate and mountainous topography, and you get wines that literally transport you to the hillside in which it was made for a culinary experience like no other.

This weekend, we will be tasting a variety of Italian wines from several different regions, from Veneto in the north to Sicily in the south. David Gansler, from La Rosa Selections, will be on hand this Friday 5-7pm pouring wine, telling stories about producers, the region, as well as winemaking techniques, which will include the following wines:

Pantun, Arzillo (Rosato Pet Nat) 2023

La Selvaggia, Meta (Catarratto) 2023

Pietra Pinta, Malvasia Puntinata 2024

Valentina Cubi, "Iltabarro" Valpolicella Classico Superiore DOC 2020

Tenuta del Travale, Esmen Tetra (Nerello Mascallese) 2021

....AND for all those beer drinkers out there, we have Omnium Brewing pouring samples on Friday (5-7pm). Omnium is a women-led brewery that started in New Hampshire in December 2022. They are known for their passion in combining diverse ingredients and techniques to create unique flavors. We will be sampling New England Waterfall IPA, Haze Vortex IPA and Pils Wave (German Pilsner).

We will be enjoying all of these wines and beers with fresh cheese, bread and charcuterie from our friends at Bread Obsession, World's Best Cheeses, Seacrest Foods and Accardi Foods.
